Declarations & Scriptures for Blessing Your Home
Purpose, protection, and power for your home.
I recently moved to a new home and felt the Lord instruct me to pray over and bless my home. This may be something that most people do automatically, but this was a first for me. This is also the first time that I’ve lived in an actual house without living with my parents or with another family member. Just me and my husband… and God.
As usual, because I’m naturally an overthinker, I started researching if I needed to get some holy oil or if I could just use the olive oil at my house (lol).. or did I even need oil at all? I caught myself going down the rabbit hole that would eventually lead to me not doing it at all, so I decided I would just set aside time to worship, pray, and express my declarations to God based on scriptures I found. The latter is what I am sharing with you today.
Before I do, I want to make it clear that some of these declarations aren’t fully evident in my home… yet. The time I spent in worship and prayer was just the starting point of my faith to witness what God will do. I’ve written it down, I’ve said it out loud, and now I’m sharing it with others; all steps of faith for me.
With that being said, I hope that it will inspire you to pray and make these declarations over your home (and that is wherever you lay your head – apartment, hotel, rented room, house, etc).
I hope that you will take time to invite the Holy Spirit into your space and experience the confidence that comes when you boldly pray scripture over your home.
I hope that your home is filled with God’s love and protected by His power.
Declarations & Scriptures:
◈ Wisdom will dwell and be found here.
“For whoever finds me [wisdom] finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.” Proverbs 8:35 ESV (‘wisdom’ added for context)
◈ This home is built by God.
“Unless the Lord builds this house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1 ESV
◈ All who enter our home will be greeted with peace.
“And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.’” 1 Samuel 25:6 ESV
“Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’” Luke 10:5 ESV
“My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” Isaiah 32:18 ESV
◈ A community of gladness and generosity will be established in this home.
“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,” Acts 2:46 ESV
◈ God’s power will be present in this home.
“For the kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 4:20 NLT
◈ God is first in this home.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV
◈ Service to the Lord will be evident in this home.
“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14-15 ESV
◈ Wisdom, understanding, and knowledge will build, establish, and fill this home.
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Proverbs 24:3-4 ESV
“Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.” Proverbs 9:1 ESV
◈ This home is protected, and we dwell in the safety of God’s presence.
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8 ESV
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our fortress.” Psalm 46:1,7 ESV
“The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” Psalm 121:7-8 ESV
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 ESV
◈ The Lord bless this home and all who enter it.
“ And now, O Lord God, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.” 2 Samuel 7:28-29 ESV
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 ESV
◈ This home is built on the solid rock of Christ’s Word.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25 ESV
◈ This home will produce a testimony of healing, transformation, and miracles.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 ESV
“For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’” Jeremiah 30:17 ESV
“And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.” Acts 3:16 ESV
“I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord.” Psalm 118:17 ESV
◈ Love will rule in this home. We love God, we love people, and we love ourselves.
“and he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39 ESV
“Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.” Psalm 52:1 ESV
◈ This home belongs to God and will be well taken care of.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24 ESV
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,” Psalm 24:1ESV
“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’” Matthew 25:14, 21 ESV (*I encourage you to read the entire parable vs. 14-30)
